Why should I donate?
We are all part of the community. Some people in our community experience situations such as domestic violence, mental illness and/ or sudden financial hardship which make it difficult for them to find work and earn enough to pay rent. Hardships can happen to anyone. The wait for public housing can be many years. Your donation is a way for you to make a difference in the community to help homeless people and deliver a solution to a problem which affects us all.
What percentage of my donation will go toward the Lone Ride Campaign?
The vast majority, as everyone at Avalon is a volunteer.
Is Tim really going to ride all by himself without a support vehicle?
Yes. Tim is an experienced endurance cyclist and has done many very long bike rides in Australia and overseas.
Is Tim fit enough to ride all that way?
Yes, he has been on numerous practice rides to prepare for the ride.
With one house you will only be helping a few people.
We have to start somewhere and this is Avalon’s first step. The first home will help the initial occupants find their feet with Avalon’s support services. With the success of the first home, we will run more Avalon Homes campaigns to establish more homes and hopefully inspire other organisations to do the same.
What happens if the people trash the house?
The people will be chosen using appropriate selection criteria. If the house is damaged, an appropriate incident handling procedure will be followed.
What happens if you don’t reach the million dollar target?
If insufficient funds are raised, the money will be held in the Lone Ride account, and we will continue fundraising until the target is met.
